In August 2008 I completed the Masters by Research in Human Geography course with the Institute of Geography at the University of Edinburgh, graduating with distinction. The course provides advanced level research training for postgraduate study in human geography, and is recognised as a research training course by the Economic and Social Research Council.

As part of this program, I completed a series of research training courses, and developed a research project exploring localism in alternative food networks - the subject of my masters dissertation. During the year, I also wrote a paper for Area exploring neoliberalism in alternative food politics, and worked as a tutor for undergraduate courses in human geography and sustainability.

I completed my first degree at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, graduating in June 2007 with an MA (hons) First Class in Geography.

During my first two years at St Andrews, core classes in physical and human geography were supplemented by classes from a range of other disciplines (see right). In the third and fourth years, I focused solely on human geography, taking classes in philosophical and methodological debates in human geography and optional classes in development studies and environmental management. I also completed a review essay exploring political ecology and carried out research for my dissertation entitled Moving Towards Sustainable Energy Provision: Two City-Scale Case Studies.
